Ebola rumour keeps people hysteric; govt intervenes

Management of the Laquintinie hospital in Douala was quick to assure the population that there is no case of the deadly fever in the hospital.

The Director of the hospital, Jean II Dissongo gauged the degree of panic especially after administrative and security officials flanged the hospital to get first-hand information.

All those who came over were assured that the suspected case of Ebola is just an ordinary malaria attack.

The rumour went wild after a man of Chinese nationality was admitted. He had diarrhoea and was vomiting; symptoms that made his roommates become very suspicious.

The hospital management quickly carried out appropriate medical tests and got the assurance that it was not Ebola.

In the meantime, many had received text messages stating that a case of Ebola had been diagnosed at the Laquintinie hospital.

The Minister of Public Health quickly reacted through a communiqué indicating unequivocally that no case of the deadly virus has been diagnosed in Cameroon.

He assured the population that a number of stringent measures have been put in place by government to restrict movement of peoples especially those living in boarder areas.
