East: Governor visits two command posts

Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua, East Governor Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua, East Governor

The people of Bertoua and Boni were in for a surprise when the governor, Dieudonné Ivaha Diboua, together with regional officials of the police and gendarmerie conducted some checks on the road on Sunday around 22h (10pm.)

The impressive procession, took place at Police and Gendarmerie checkpoints Mandjou and Bonis, according to a CRTV East reporter.

At the first point in Mandjou, bus stops and road users, including pedestrians, were systematically checked under the gaze of the Governor of the Eastern Region and most local officials of the police and gendarmerie.

Everything plus the excavation of all personal vehicles as well as public transport passengers with their luggages were scrutinized. There was the search at all the nooks and crannies of the bus and coach transport. Both the drivers and passengers were ordered to get off the vehicle to walk to the checkpoint with their handbag or any other package they had. There was the inspection of the National Identity Card (NIC). The ritual ended with each passenger being checked with a metal detector.

Industrial and timber truck drivers and other behemoths of the road had the same treatment. The only exception to the rule were sealed containers with goods from the Autonomous Port of Douala (PAD) that were not opened.

Later, in the small town of Bonis, the same scenario took place before the governor of the eastern region and his delegation.

The mixed group of Police and Gendarmerie recorded five CNI default cases and “some suspected persons” were arrested on Sunday, August 2, 2015. All those involved were taken to police headquarters in the city of Bertoua for interrogations.
