More than a hundred ENS Maroua students went on a demonstration to protest against the gruesome killing of their colleague on Thursday.

The students, all dressed in black to mourn their colleague, gathered in front of the rectory and government's office at Maroua University to demand justice for the death of the victim.

Dieudonné Gatsou Dinamou, a final year geography student at ENS Maroua, was killed by a soldier in a fight on Monday evening. The 28 year old was stabbed with a knife by the soldier.

For the students, Dinamou’s death was what broke the camel’s back. They condemned inhumane treatment suffered daily by the people of the Far North and students in particular.

The governor assured the demonstrators that all measures are being put in place to ensure that justice is done after the death of one of their comrades.

The governor, surrounded by his staff, expressed condolence on behalf of the government to the deceased’s family and students of the university. He promised that all arrangements are made to ensure that perpetrators be brought before justice.

"No one is above the law", he said. Midjiyawa Bakari suggested organizing a meeting with representatives of six students to provide clarification in relation to this tragedy.

The alleged perpetrator has, however, been arrested
