Drugs, contraband worth FCFA 30 million destroyed

They were destroyed on May 22, 2014 in Bafoussam by the West Regional Commission for the Fight Against Illicit Drugs.

An important stock of contraband goods from neighbouring countries, intercepted by the forces of law and order, a consignment of 266 cartons of expired drugs from the government-owned West Pharmaceuticals Supply Centre (CAP) as well as some 300 kg of Indian hemp, all estimated at over FCFA 30 million have been destroyed by the Regional Commission for the fight against illicit drugs.

The destruction that took place some two kilometres on the outskirts of Bafoussam, on May 22, 2014, was supervised by the Permanent Secretary in the West Governor’s office, Mooh Simon Emile, in the company of the First Assistant SDO for Mifi, Ngono Mireille Sonia, Substitute to the Senior State Counsel for Bafoussam Court of First Instance, Fotso Marcel, the Regional Delegate of Public Health, Dr. Mache Pentue Patrice and security forces.

Speaking to the press, Mooh Simon thanked the various specialised service heads, like the Customs, Police, Gendarmerie and health officials for the wonderful job of seizing drugs and goods of doubtful qualities that are dangerous to the health of the population. He invited the public to keep away from roadside drugs and go to the hospitals or pharmacies where rightful drugs are sold.

Mooh Simon thanked the Regional Delegation of health for handing some 266 cartons of expired drugs from government pharmacy for destruction, adding that if these drugs are left in the careless hands of certain individuals, the latter will sell them to roadside vendors who shall in return sell them to the public.

The members of the Regional Commission for the fight against contraband and illicit drugs spent over three hours to watch a chain-footed bulldozer destroy seized drugs to the approval of the public that turned out to watch the event.
