Douala Youth Empowerment Centre recruits students

Several youths have been selected to be trained in various cultural aspects by the Douala Multipurpose Reference Youth Empowerment Centre. This was during the centre’s Cultural Week that lasted from November 11-13, 2015 at its Cité SIC Bassa campus.

The objective of the Cultural Week was to sensitise the public on the Multipurpose Reference Youth Empowerment Centre as well as organise activities to help recruit talents to be trained in the centre. Presided by the representative of the Littoral Regional Delegate of Youths and Civic Education, Massabe Ladifatou, the three days of activities culminated in a cultural jamboree over the week-end.

Massabe Ladifatou undertook a guided tour of the centre at the end of which she noted challenges such as inadequate infrastructure and material. She promised that measures were being taken to surmount them. Over 1,000 youths participated in the activities to detect talents to be groomed in year 2016. The activities included music, dance, poetry writing, lectures and sports. The theme was “National Integration and Civic Education.”

Jean Didier Nyoumi, Director of the Multipurpose Reference Youth Empowerment Centre, said many people and organisations have acquired its services at affordable prices without compromising quality. He called on the public to make use of the services offered by the centre such as welding, mechanics, fashion design, etc.

As part of volunteerism, the youths cleaned up markets and other public places. Public lectures on various topics to sensitise and encourage youths to be conscious of their civic responsibilities and patriotism were also organised.
