Municipal councillors voted the budget during an ordinary session on December 16, 2014.

Douala I council, under the leadership of Mayor Lengue Malapa, on Tuesday December 16, voted the 2015 budget in the presence of authorities in Wouri Division. The budget that stands at FCFA 2,496,820,000 is slightly above that of 2014 that stood at FCFA 2,074, 130,632, thus a FCFA 422,689,368 increase.

Going by the council’s Secretary General, Oscar Eone, investment budget for 2015 stands at FCFA 1.021 billion as against FCFA 821.4 million for 2014.

Talking to the press after the council session, the Mayor emphasised that priority will be given to the fight against urban disorder and pandemics like HIV/AIDS, environmental protection and the enhancement of hygiene and sanitation.

On infrastructure, he said the construction of the centre for Women Empowerment and the Family, the construction of quarter houses (Maisons du quartier) in some neighbourhoods, the construction of a medical centre and the finishing of the council’s building are also some of the council’s main concern.

Since the population of Douala I is witnessing a steady rise in population, the budget he referred to as “ambitious”, will construct a Municipal Nursery School and add to six existing ones that will be rehabilitated and some extended.

Immediately after the ordinary session, councillors adopted an internal regulation of the council during an extraordinary session.
