Douala Evangelical Church to open technology university

The first foundation stone was laid last Saturday at PK14, in the presence of the representative of the Head of State.

L’université de technologies du Cinquantenaire (Utec) is not yet completed but has already been commissioned. This will be the Higher Institute of Technology of Jean Kotto Cinquantenaire.

The name was unveiled by the Reverend Isaac Batomen Henga, president of the Evangelical Church of Cameroon (Eec) on June 13, 2015 at PK14, Ngoma, specifically on a 14 hectares site in Douala III that will accommodate the ambitious project of FCFA 25 billion. It was disclosed during the solemn worship of laying the first stone and fundraising of the site owned by the Cinquantenaire in the Makepe parish.

The event was well attended by the hundreds of faithful, the Protestant clergy, the authorities of the Republic, including Joseph Beti Assomo, Governor of the Littoral Region as a representative of the head of state.

It was an opportunity for the pastor Jacques Marcel Ngahne Ngouaba, head of the parish of the Cinquantenaire to recall the four pillars of the University: ethics and spirituality, sustainable development, professionalism and entrepreneurial spirit.

In addition to French, the focus will be on English and Mandarin to get competitive graduates not only on the Cameroonian market, but also internationally. For the head of the Eec du Cinquantenaire parish, the Utec is "a place where men and women will be trained and built to live with others and to support the development of society."

In the same vein, Pastor Isaac Batomen stressed that it must not only ensure the salvation of the souls of the faithful, "we must move to a holistic church that oversees the development of the Christian at all levels, including its social well-being and intellectual edification. It is important today for churches to remember their social function."

The president himself also recalled the work of the Eec for tens of years on health centers, kindergartens, primary, secondary and university of Bandjoun.

He returned on the intended purpose of the evangelical church which still has 3 million strong following out of the 9 million Protestants in Cameroon.

The highlight of the ceremony on June 13 was the fundraising. Among the gifts, that of President of the Republic FCFA 6,000,000 was delivered by his representative. This was a gesture which for Rev. Isaac Batomen thanked the Head of State for this long support.
