Displaced persons, military receive donations

The store No. 2 of the Cereals Office located in the Kongola neighbourhood in Maroua, emptied its contents last weekend as all donations that were stored were solemnly handed to representatives of beneficiaries last Friday.

This was during a simple ceremony presided over by the governor of the region, Midjiyawa Bakari. These items included food and other necessities donated by Cameroonians for displaced populations and the defense forces of the Far North, as part of the war against Boko Haram.

These gifts from Yaoundé were handed over on Friday, June 12 to the governor of the region by René Emmanuel Sadi, the MINATD, Chairman of the ad hoc inter-ministerial committee for the management of donations for defense forces and populations.

Apart from a few curious people present at the ceremony, prefects of Diamaré, the Mayo-Tsanaga Chari and Logone and Colonel Michel Noussidji represented by the acting commander of Joint Military Region 4 were present.

All items officially received from the governor among other gifts are rice bags, oil seeds, tubers, boxes of soap, pharmaceuticals and even clothing. For Raymond Roksbo Reeve of Mayo-Tsanaga, "these foods come in handy because we are in Ramadan. They must be routed quickly to beneficiaries who will certainly receive it with great joy. It's been less spending for those who are Muslim and who are immersed in the fast".

Despite the fact that the ceremony was very short, the governor Midjiyawa Bakari took the opportunity to ask authorities to relay the items to the beneficiaries and ensure that all donations reach them effectively for "all security and logistical arrangements to be routed safely," he said.

Regarding distribution, the Governor said the local board of the donor management has proposed a distribution that has been validated by the hierarchy and therefore will be discussed to ensure that all documents are properly discharged for Cameroonians to be reassured that their efforts to the war against Boko Haram reaches the legitimate beneficiaries.

Another cargo of foodstuffs is announced to be sent in the coming days from Douala.
