Defence Chief examines NW border security situation

Lt. General René Claude Meka was on a regular outing in the 2nd Joint Military Region.

The security situation of the 6th Military Sector which covers the North West Region was topical when the Chief of Defence Staff, went visiting on April 30 and May 1st, 2014. In effect, Lt. General René Claude Meka went sizing up the security situation of the North West and encouraging best practices in matters of national defence.

In Bamenda, he concerted with staff of the 6th Military Sector. Day two of the visit took the Defence Chief of Staff to the border community of Baworo, Menchum Valley Sub division where herdsmen, reportedly escaping ethnic fighting in neighbouring Nigeria are threatening social peace in the Cameroonian villages of Badu, Bajini, Ukenake, Ifung and Ambo.

Lt. General René Claude Meka was accompanied by the Commander of the 2nd Joint Military Region, Major General Saly Mohammadou. His area of command covers the Littoral, South West, West and North West Regions. The Baworo border area is not only the shortest route to Nigeria from Bamenda, but also the gateway to the three Nigerian States of Benue, Taraba and Cross River.
