Patrice Amba Salla, Minister of Public Works Patrice Amba Salla, Minister of Public Works

The Minister of Public Works on Monday conducted a working visit to the South West to assess the quality and progress of these development projects.

The architecture of the road that connects the city of Kumba to Mamfe has emerged gradually, an Observation made by the Minister of Public Works, Patrice Amba Salla, who paid a working visit to the South-West region last Monday.

The working visit, which came within the framework of monitoring of major road works initiated by the state, consisted of visiting the two lots totalling FCFA 65, 19 billion , which constitute the axis from Kumba –Mamfé, namely Lot 1 which will involve Kumba-Bakwa, Supé-Kumbe to Bakundu- Nfaitock and lot 2 that stretches from Nfaitock-Bachuo to Akagbe.

A year after its launch, the development works of Lot 1, along 103,98 km, 9% of the road was executed by 15 June. It is a real source of satisfaction for Minister Patrice Amba Salla who expressed optimism about the ability of the China Communications Construction company (UNFCCC), responsible for carrying out the work.

In the specifications of the company, it envisaged the construction of 103 km of paved road, the architectural designs and drainage as well as weigh stations and toll booths. In the field, the Minister of Public Works has made it a duty to inquire into the conditions of life and work of the workers of the UNFCCC.

He went in turn to the base of the company, in the locality of Mabanda. The crushing plant housed Diongo and technical basis of the UNFCCC. For now, the CCCC could make the foundation layer achieving over 25 km initiating the construction of architectural and hydraulic structures.

The Minister Patrice Amba Salla did not hide his disappointment at the delay in relation to the timing of the work. Indeed, the rate of implementation of this road along 46.880 km, which was started in 2014 was only 6% since June 15. This axis is still littered with potholes. Likewise, rights of way have not been fully initiated.

To explain this delay, the Jiangsu provincial transportation engineering group Co Ltd (JTEGC), the company that performs the work, spoke of the very high rainfall rate and the rugged terrain that characterize the region.

For the Minister of Public Works there is no way to extend the deadlines: "We want this batch delivered on time. However, the company will be penalized for the delay of work and cost overruns because of the extension of the deadlines of the consulting firm in charge of monitoring and supervising the work," he said.

By visiting the facilities of the JTEGC, he prescribed the acceleration of work to get back on schedule. Asphalting of this lot like the previous will strengthen the road infrastructure of the country and improve the living conditions of populations.

The reception of the client was up to the satisfaction of the Manyu department. Traditional leaders in the district of Upper Bayang, strongly mobilized for the occasion, took advantage of the moment to praise Minister Patrice Amba Salla, a way of expressing their gratitude for the road coming to erase the painful memory of the multiple sufferings related to the isolation of the road network.

According to Minister Patrice Amba Salla, they also benefit from the facilities and related measures including the construction of drying areas, school and health infrastructure.
