Computer science teacher wins best MTN Foundation/MINESEC award

Pierre Amougui Mveng, a Computer Science teacher from Government High School Banyo, has emerged the overall winner of the MTN Foundation/Ministry of Secondary Education, MINESEC, best teacher using and integrating ICTs Award.
Amougui, who scored 83 points on 100, took home a laptop, a modem and free internet access for a year like all the 19 winners from all the Regions.
An award ceremony took place at Lycee Nkolbisson, Yaounde, on November 18 in the presence of MTN Foundation and MINESEC representatives.

It was an occasion for some of the teachers to present outstanding projects from the Regions. Fabien Betchem Amougnol Dieudonne, a Physics teacher from Lycee de Kette in the East Region presented the use of computer programmes to demonstrate how an internal combustion engine functions.
Fadimata Moussa from Lycee Classic, Mora, Far North Region, created school data base using Microsoft access thus demonstrating the importance of an online database system.

MTN Foundation Board of Trustees member, Serge Soso, who accompanied the MTN Foundation Executive Secretary, Melvin Akam, on the occasion, maintained that, by launching the innovative concept of the competition to select the best teacher using and integrating ICTs, the MTN Foundation intended to pay tribute to teachers who are the pillars of the nation.

He stressed that the role of teachers in developing human capital is primordial, pointing that building a strong nation requires educated men.
Soso asserted that innovation is the mantra of MTN Foundation and candidates participating in the competition responded to the initiative to jointly build a new world.

According to Melvin Akam, as an essential partner of Government in enforcing national policies on access to quality education, MTN Foundation reaffirmed, through the competition, that the teacher is cornerstone of the education system and deserves his place and dignity in society.
The competition that binds MTN Foundation and MINESEC was launched in 2013 to promote the teacher and encourage excellence in science subjects. The second edition saw the introduction of two categories; one for computer science teachers and the other for other teachers in different subjects, an amelioration from the first edition.

Also, 20 teachers were rewarded from all the Regions and the Regional Delegation with the highest number of entries which happened to be the Centre Region will be rewarded with the installation of a mini-multimedia centre.
In 2016, the MTN Foundation intends to install 15 multi-media centres in some Government High Schools selected by MINESEC, this would add to the 40 centres already installed nationwide within MTN Foundation-MINESEC partnership.
MTN foundation has contributed immensely in the area of education with the building or refurbishing of primary schools, improving access to new technologies, the teaching of science in secondary schools and support to teachers.
