Commuter dies on commercial bus

57-year-old man Richard Mbi died on a commercial bus at Buea Mile 17 Bus Station while on his way to Muyuka. The unfortunate incident occurred about 5:30pm on Sunday, April 5.

Musa Gibo driver of the 19-seater transport bus said he took-off from Douala on his way to Kumba but stopped at the Buea mile 17 Bus Station to drop some passengers.

“As I was taking out the luggage of the passengers from the trunk, Richard Mbi who seemingly looked strong told me he is going to Muyuka and got on board.

"When I was done, I entered and took off. Shortly afterward, passengers started shouting that the man who had just entered seemed to be in a crisis.” Musa Gibo the bus driver said.

He said he pulled over and opened the door as passengers struggled to assist Mbi.

“We took out his phone and called the last number on his call log. Fortunately, his son picked the call and came to the scene. The man was then rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead,” an eyewitness said.

Isaac Angoh Kekia, son of the deceased told The Cameroon Journal at the Buea Regional Hospital Annex that his father had died even before he reached the hospital. He however, confirmed that his father had a known health condition.

IPP Metuge of the 3rd District Police in Muea came to the scene for preliminary investigations.
