Car washing businesses banned by the Prefect of Douala

The Prefect of the department of Wouri banned this activity in the city a few weeks ago, claiming that it is not legal.

Jovago.com met with the car washers to find out about their situation. According to these young people called by improvised workers, they no longer know what step to take since they were notified about this prefectural decision. They are between 20 and 40 who work in the only neighborhood Bonanjo and this to the delight of motorists who request their services.

While some are very young, others are almost at the retirement stage since they have been in the business for a long time.

"For over twenty years I have been in this business, I feed a family of ten, and if asked to stop now, what will I do? How will I continue to take care of my family?” these were the statements of Francis, a scrubber seen in the city.

This decision, however, raised some concerns from the general public who do not understand it. According to unionists in Akwa district, the state has left these young ones for years to exercise this activity and it is difficult to enforce such a decision at this time because it would impact seriously on the lives of many families.

They stated that, another activity be found for these fathers before prohibiting them from what puts food on their table.

Many of these young people who, every day, exercise the Car washer art in order to provide for their families are seen at every corner of the city and their services are in high demand.

Note that this is the status quo since the decision was made public, no one seemed to respect the decision and so far there has not been any penalty.
