Campaign against sale of Alcohol to minors

The Synedoc, a National union for people dealing with drinks, will start from next Monday a public awareness on drinking establishments on the abuse of alcohol.

And more, on the consumption of alcoholic beverages by -18-year olds, 1368 bartenders were trained in the cities of Douala and Yaounde on responsible sale of alcohol. It was discussed during this training on how to sensitize these responsible drinking places on compliance with laws, with regard to the responsible sale of liquor.

For non-compliance of these laws can result in penalties. In particular, a fine from 5,000 FCFA to 50 000 FCFA for every drinking establishment that receives in its point of sale a minor of under 18 years of age not accompanied by an adult of 21-year for supervision. Or the one who makes 21-year old drinks to intoxication. And in case of recidivism, the responsible drinking establishments face a prison sentence.
In particular, the imprisonment from 15 days to one month and a fine from 10 000 FCFA to 100 000 FCFA.

For the materialization of this awareness, signboards on which are written “no alcohol consumption for under 18 years” will be installed in 500 bars selected by the Synedeboc. “These boards are designed to attract the attention of bartenders, so that whenever a minor enters their point of sale, they remember that they are ambassadors for the sale of responsible drinking” explains Hervé Nana, regional president of Synedeboc for the Littoral during a press conference in Douala.
