Members of both Government and private higher education sectors in the South West Region have been challenged to reclaim their past as Job creators, for the wellbeing of their communities and Africa at large.

This call was made by Rev.Fr. George Nkeze Jingwa, President of the Catholic University Institute of Buea, CUIB during the celebration of African University day 2014, at the University of Buea. The event was celebrated under the theme “How can African Universities enhance capacity for job Creation”.

In his public discourse, guest speaker George Nkeze, recounted the history of Africa before slavery as a continent of job creation. Quoting from the book of Genesis, 3:23, Fr George called on participants to join the Divine dance of creativity; as this is the backbone to job creation.

He further emphasized the need for Universities to be centers for learning that build passion in students to study and move beyond the classroom, to creating jobs for themselves and their community.

Be it at the micro or macro levels, the mindset must be geared towards innovating, inventing and creating, for job creation to be realized. To enhance capacity for job creation, African Universities he said must promote what he terms the "Triple Helix": promote University, industry and the society.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor of The University of Buea, Prof. George, commended the motivational speaker and invited all to work towards producing better results in enhancing job creation.

The African University Day is organized by the Association of African Universities (AAU) as an annual event celebrated every November 12. It serves as a platform for consultation, exchange of information, and represents the voice of Higher Education in Africa.
