‘Bush-faller’s car knocks to death goat meat vendor

A goat meat vendor cum commercial motorcycle rider resident in Kumba, whose name The Post got only as Genesis, lost his life in an accident with a car driven by a bush-faller on November 14.

Eyewitness accounts hold that the incident occurred around 10.00pm in front of a popular drinking spot around Buea Road in Kumba. The bush-faller’s car with plate number, SW 449A D, bumped into Genesis who was sitting on his bike.

Going by the eyewitness accounts the bush-faller and a girl who were in the car, survived the accident, while Genesis died on the spot.

The bush-faller is reported to have been rescued from the hands of the crowd by the police. He is currently under detention at the Kumba Central Police Station.

Reports hold that, Genesis, who used to sell goat meat in front of the drinking spot where he met his death, had just returned from visiting his brother who is in the same business. The eyewitnesses narrated to The Post that a passenger stopped Genesis who then made a u-turn to pick her up. It was in the process of waiting for the passenger that the bush-fallers’ car bumped into him on his motorcycle.

Other accounts hold that the bush-faller had hired the car to use during the festive period. He is said to have been on high speed coming from the Muyuka end of the road into the heart of the metropolis when he bumped into the bike rider.

When the accident occurred, a woman who does business around the same area is said to have collapsed making onlookers to take her for the person knocked down by the car. But she reportedly slumped due to the speed and noise of the collision.

It was after the bush-faller and the others had been taken to the police station that the crowd discovered the unconscious body of Genesis on the tarmac. The corpse has been deposited at the Kumba District Hospital Mortuary.

It would be recalled that, about the same time last year, a bush-faller was fined for knocking down a bull along the same street towards the bridge leading to Buea Road.
