Bomono: Bus reduced to ashes

A 70-seater bus en route to Douala from Bafoussam caught fire in the night of Sunday, August 16, at about 7:30.

The incident occurred at Bomono in the Dibombari Subdivision of the Moungo in the Littoral Region, at about 20 kilometres west of Douala.

Although the tragedy left no human casualty, some of the 70 passengers on board the bus lost valuable properties.

According to some passengers in the bus, the automobile caught fire just minutes after smoke billowed into it, probably due to a mechanical glitch in the engine.

As the flames increased, it became dangerous for other automobiles to pass by and until hours later, several other vehicles were held in traffic congestions on both directions of the highway.

Following impatience after a long wait for the fire to subside to no-avail, vehicles that had queued up following the congestion took the risk of passing by with one set of their tyres on the borders of the highway and the other set in the nearby bush.
