Bertoua: scarcity of table birds more acute

Chicken farm Chicken farm

Due to the restrictions placed on the distribution and a consequent price hike, which has consequently affected the price of even locally produced chicken, the Ministry of livestock fisheries and Animal Industries have created a special corridor to guarantee the safe distribution of young chicks in the Bertoua Urban area.

By so doing, only three licensed poultry farmers are authorized to produce chickens. This restriction has consequently resulted in total frustration from all stakeholders in the sector.

The producers complain of no feed in the market, while consumers complain of high cost of the grown chicken and eggs.

Worst still a good number of Cameroonians are now jobless as a result of the malaise.

Chicken dealers have decried the scarcity as a great problem to grapple especially as the end of year’s feasts are fast approaching, a period whereby chicken would be the most preferred dish amongst the numerous menu.
