The Minister of Employment and Vocational Training, Zechariah Perevet has urged benefactors of Programme Intégré d’Appui aux Acteurs du Secteur Informel (PIAASI) to fufill their part of the deal by paying their loans.

Perevet made this statement during his recent visit of the successful projects in the Far North.

The Zechariah Perevet led initiative included the Governor, Midjiyawa Bakari and the National Coordinator of (PIAASI), Claude Melone who visited some successes of this program in Maroua.

He visited the treatment and processing sites.

The GIC Tanerie have benefited from the PIAASI funding since 2006. The minister explained the artisanal transformation process of the skin. He congratulated those responsible for the structure, while encouraging them, to modernize working conditions and be concerned about environmental issues. "MINEFOP will continue to support the people involved in the work," he promised.

The second stop was around the Sahel Polytechnic Centre; an auto mechanic shop that benefitted from the initiative in 2009. This PIAASI garage has employed 22 people and supervises interns from some training institutes and has been on track for 5 years.

Also thanks to funding from PIAASI, some advanced equipment were acquired which has enhanced the technical department.

The Minister made known the support his ministry will offer, particularly, in the field of professional capacity building. He urged developers to fulfill their responsibilities vis-à-vis the PIAASI commitments. "If you pay, you get more supports”, he said.

Following this tour, Zechariah Perevet visited the construction site of Maroua Excellence Training Centre located next to the Maroua Bilingual High School.

Like those in Douala, Limbe and Sangmélima, the Maroua Excellence Training Centre, modeled on the South Korean model, will offer training courses in carpentry, welding, clothing, mechanical, electrical, electronics, plumbing and others. The aim of setting up these structures is to develop the competence and quality of the vocational training system in Cameroon.
