Beggars are still persistent at Tsila

Yaounde Yaounde

Beggars continue to camp at Tsila, from Poste centrale at Carrefour du Collège de la Retraite through to Kennedy avenue, despite the announcement of special security measures taken by the prefect of Mfoundi.

The measures include the prohibition of begging on the streets of the capital, with an extension to street children.

According to sources, the number of street children at Poste centrale has reduced. A callbox operator in the vicinity said these beggars constitute as real dangers to the population: "It is a good initiative for the government to have taken these measures, especially at this time when the country is facing the terrorist threat from Boko-Haram.”

Raids were conducted in the arteries of Yaoundé a few days ago. "In recent weeks at Poste centrale, you could move freely without the risk of being extracted," testified Sandra Nyangono, commercial officer at a Company.

However, evil is resistant. At Kennedy aevnue however, between sellers of phones, breads, jackets, belts, one can also find beggars. At the central town in Yaoundé, they parade around people who are about taking a taxi in front of supermarkets and take advantage to beg money from the passers-by.

At Carrefour du Collège de la Retraite, a child held the hand of her blind mother, with a plate in hand, to keep money that will be dropped by the generous individuals. The area has been sensitized by measures of the prefect of Mfoundi.

'They no longer occupy the same position as they did previously in order not to attract the attention of security', noted a citizen who frequents the area “The application of the measures taken by the state in the political capital remains to be done because despite the decrease of street children in some areas in Yaoundé, their presence on the national territory remains a threat,” he thought, convinced that “Boko-Haram uses children to achieve their end.”
