Bapes bapes visits examination centers in Maroua

The Minister of Secondary Education Louis Bapes Bapes has made a trip to Maroua to ensure that examinations are conducted under proper conditions.

Arriving in Maroua on Saturday, Louis Bapes Bapes visited four centers in the city on Monday, June 1, 2015.

He made the trip to the technical high school, grammar school, the bilingual high school and high school Domayo. The Minister, accompanied by the governor Midjiyawa Bakari, observed order at these examination centers despite few cases of absenteeism.

"A security apparatus has been set up close to schools where examinations are being held, but this is not to put fear in candidates", said a police official.

However, in the departments of Logone and Chari, Mayo-Sava and Mayo-Tsanaga where attacks of the terrorist sect Boko Haram are rife, security apparatus have been installed around the examination sub-centers as well.

This is to ensure the safety of candidates and examiners throughout the written test period till the publication of final results.

The presence of Louis Bapes Bapes in this region is also to ensure that government measures are rightly executed to support schools in this part of the country due to activities of the terrorist sect Boko Haram.

On very high instructions of the Head of State, an emergency plan for construction of school infrastructure is running in the Far North region. The plan includes the construction of 196 classrooms equipped with 7,930-white tables and 270 offices, achieving 79 wells, 84 latrines, 20 dormitories and 10 school canteens.

Furthermore, to make up for the educational lag between students in the Far North region and the rest of Cameroon, the Head of State has instructed that an amount of 350 million FCFA be released for resettlement of students and teachers in these affected areas.

This money was used to pay the examination fees and the organization of upgrade courses for pupils affected by the insurgencies. To ensure a smooth conduct of examinations in affected areas, some centers and sub-centers were also relocated to cities where there are adequate infrastructure.

This incentive covers institutions in these areas on the borders with Nigeria who suffered the terrors of Boko Haram in the boroughs of Fotokol in the Logone and Chari of Kolofata in Mayo Sava and high school Ashigachia in Mayo-Tsanaga.
