Bandjoun chiefdom reconstruction commences

His Majesty Djomo Kamga announced the commencement of work on the entrance of Bandjoun chiefdom last Sunday. While still investigating the actual cause of the fire that recently consumed the entrance of chiefdom Bandjoun, reconstruction of the site has already commenced as was indicated on the agenda. Bandjoun natives are expected on Saturday, January 31 at Bandjoun to support this work.

HM Djomo Kamga made the announcement last Sunday, during the visit of the Bandjoun de Bangangté community accompanied by Mayor Célestine Ketcha Courtès. "We must not spend all the time to extinguish the fire. It is necessary to clean the ashes and to come together as it is still customary to rebuild. I expect your help in the reconstruction of the entrance," said the Chief of Bandjoun.

To heed to the call, Mayor Célestine Ketcha Courtès offered a sum of one million Fcfa to support the reconstruction. He who came to "extinguish the fire" also gave Chief Bandjoun a calabash embroidered to extinguish the fire in the future as soon as it sparks. Then his delegation went to the scene of the fire and proceeded to do the traditional ritual by making a vow.

At the entrance of the Chieftainship, a pile of water bottles emptied of their contents shows the scale of the disaster which fortunately left no casualties.

The princes have made a lucrative business from this custom of selling the empty water bottles to visitors as a means to 'extinguish the fire'.
