Bamenda cut off from the rest of the country

The population of the Northwest witnessed a nightmare on Thursday after the stretch of road between the towns of Babadjou and Bamenda became impassable.

This part of national number 6 road, which connects the regional capital of the Northwest to the rest of Cameroon, got all vehicles plying the road stuck.

Touched by the situation, the Regional transportation unions observed a strike on Thursday August 20, 2015, which forced the Governor of the Region to convene a crisis meeting.

The boss of the region, Lele Lafrique subsequently banned the movement of heavy trucks on this road which is undergoing emergency work. All trucks with goods from Bamenda have been parked at Up Station pending the completion of the work.

The paradox on this road is that in February 2012, the head of State had instructed the special release of 100 billion CFA FRANCS, which were collected for "maintenance" of the road and for the rehabilitation of nine sections in Cameroon amongst which was Yaoundé-Bafoussam-Bamenda.

The Babadjou-Bamenda section was abandoned by its contractor.
