A violent tornado destroys the town of Doukoula

Several people are have been left homeless and public buildings seriously affected.

It is a scene of chaos when one visits the city of Doukoula, capital of the district of Karhay in Mayo-Danay department on the morning of May 26, 2015.

The city looked ruined in the afternoon of May 25, 2015 as she was shaken by a violent tornado. Several people were left homeless and it destroyed public buildings.

The branches of trees uprooted by the strong winds clogged the streets and teared down the roofs of houses. This tornado of rare force has left many residents homeless in Doukoula.

There are metal sheets hanging on the trees and electricity poles were hit. Doukoula which had just come out of darkness is still immersed in the dark. Several public buildings were affected.

The SAR / SM is particularly affected with its three buildings now roofless, complained its worried director, Sali Hamadama. "We just receive a woodwork machine that cost over 15 million. In 2008, we had machines of about thirty million. They are now exposed to the weather," he complains.

The gym at Doukoula under construction for a budget of 225 million francs CFA collapsed under the force of the wind while at the roofing level.

For the sub-prefect Seth Christian Bernard III, the city of Doukoula is completely devastated: "The term disaster is shown here. The Sar / sm needs huge resources to be revived."

According to him, the destruction of public buildings, especially the gym is not only due to the nature of the rage but its notorious defect: "The Government of the Republic has invested 225 million for the gym which was heavily affected" laments the sub-prefect.

The administrative authority questions the quality of work and materials used. "Although I am not a technician, you could see that the irons used for this quality infrastructure were not appropriate. It is normal that people earn as much money and endanger people's lives," he says.

Fortunately, the damage are limited only to infrastructure and the environment which took a serious blow. No injuries were reported.
