A top chief from the West Region condemned to 5 years in prison

Wednesday, July 8, 2015 will remain a black day for the 2nd degree chief of Batchingou and his accomplices.

During the hearing of the case between the public ministry and Emmanuel Merveil Nana, André Flaubert Nana, Guy Bertrand Djongwo Ngoundjou and Etienne Njombe, they were given a sentence of five years in prison by the TGI of Haut Nkam in the Western region.

According to the newspaper Ouest Littoral which published the facts in its Thursday, August 06, 2015 edition, the mentioned were found guilty of looting, destruction, theft and disorder. In addition to this penalty, they will have to pay a fine joint fine of 3,777 150 FCFA.

TGI of Haut-Nkam also ordered the chief and his accomplices to pay the sum of CFAF 75 000 000 as damages and interest to the main complainant, Mr Emmanuel Merveil Nana.

The case dates back to May 21, 2011 when unidentified individuals burst into a large piece of land operated by Emmanuel Merveil Nana, in the Ndouck village of the Batcha group, in the district of Bana, noted the journal. The parcel was completely looted.

Guy Bertrand Djongwo who was identified was arrested by the police. It was during his interrogation that he declared that: "it was the top chief of the Batcha group, who sent them to destroy this area with the aim of creating a community field. Some time afterwards, Etienne Njombe was apprehended because he had burned down houses in the area. Some of these houses sheltered cranes," noted the newspaper.

The trial opened December 10, 2014 at the Court of first instance of Haut-Nkam, which is competent to hear the case. After several hearings, the Court finally issued its verdict July 08, 2015.

Absent from the hearing, an arrest warrant was issued against the superior Chief André Flaubert Nana, Guy Bertrand Djongwo Ngoundjou and Etienne Njombe, concluded the newspaper.
