61 youths undergo agriculture training

61 students who completed the school year received their results and first promotions to Dizangue, with 24 students distinguished on July 9, and Kienké, which had 37 distinguished students on July 10.

The students are teenagers who want to be business leaders and more specifically own farms. While at the start of training, residents of Agricultural Family Schools (Efa) of Dizangue (Sanaga-Maritime) and Kienké (Ocean) were geared toward that mindset.

This project initiated by the European Institute of Cooperation and Development, supported by the European Union and local agro-industries, has already opened 34 EFA in Cameroon, stated a source.

According to the source, during past year, the young people received training on theoretical and practical agriculture, farming, computer, and sewing. Education was not left out, Level 6 and 5 courses were provided.

“It is about instilling knowledge which will facilitate their empowerment. Most come from poor families, some having left school for five years, "says a framer. It was first necessary to "prepare children for the future," said Adrien Remy Ossongo, general coordinator of Efa.

Adrien Remy added that this objective has been realized. The 61 students selected last week will continue their adventure and some already are delighted to have acquired practical knowledge at this stage. For example, Small Julio M., 15 years, even taught these techniques to his parents.

Outside the classrooms, some of the courses are taught in experimental fields and also spaces made available by trainers of agribusiness project and partners.
