400 youths build dikes to combat flood in the North

About 400 youths have been organized into teams, to lay sandbags daily into dikes to prevent the overflow of the water over the banks of water bodies.

The severe flooding that hit the Region of the far North in 2012 could resurface. Indeed, this flood threatens inhabitants due to strong rainfall in this part of the country for several weeks. To stop the rise of the water, about 400 young people have been mobilized by the military in this locality.

They have already built to date more than 10,000 sandbags to prevent the crossing of the waters. Day and night, the teams are at work. "Standby teams were organized to take over so that they can work day and night. Since most of the incidents occur at night, they have been given whistles, to communicate any havoc in the area. Others were entreated to call with telephone to raise alarms. they urged those with megaphones to do same when a situation arises so that they can respond quickly, explained colonel Jackson Jyotika, Director of Génie militaire.

One of the promises of the head of State after the 2012 disaster was honoured on the 4th of July in the presence of the officials of the Ministry of the economy, planning and development of the territory, the Labogénie and the administrative authorities.
