300 youths undergoing training for the Mamve'ele dam project

300 youths are undergoing six weeks training in diverse trades, to complement the project for the construction of the Mamve'ele dam. The contingent was welcomed by Jules Marcellin Ndjaga, Governor of the southern region, 16 July 2014, while launching the start of their training session which would last 45 days.

The complex of l’école publique annexe of Mekalate, at the northern entrance of Ebolowa, experienced a different atmosphere since July 14, date of the reception of the learners.

An indescribable diversity reigned as the young, unemployed and without discrimination to sex, came from the ten regions of the country carrying mattresses, travel bags and suitcases. They will however be trained in not less than five trades on the importance of the construction of the Memve'ele hydroelectric dam project. The initiative was from Programme D’accompagnement Socio-Economique de Memve’ele (Pasem), which is a component of the hydroelectric project.

This training, which is designed to last for six weeks, according to Moïse Ba'ana Sapouma, Coordinator of Pasem, envisages the reinforcement of Cameroonian youth capacity-building, in the technical trades related to the construction of the dam.

The work at the dam will benefit these young people who will not only come out seasoned after this period of training but also, the other major projects underway in the region could also benefit from their expertise. It will also enable Pasem, to have a database of trained youth that could accompany the major construction projects in the South.

The training will focus on trades such as plumbing, carpentry, electricity, boiler making, welding, and electrical carpentry. Young people accepted for the training are holders of at least the CEP or CAP, who had previously exercised in the trades selected for the occasion.

The Governor, while launching this training session, said seriousness, professionalism and patriotism is expected from all actors involved, because it is the future of Cameroon being built with the training of young people who wish to be sustained.
