3 die in Bepanda fire

56-year-old Mbankollo Daniel, his wife and sister-in-law died in the fire incident which occurred on June 1, 2015.

Many people were gathered at the entrance of the burnt residence of the Mbankollo family located near the Bakery of Peace vicinity in Bepanda to witness the accident.

The smoke in the air could not be dispelled by the rain that fell a few hours after the fire broke taking the lives of Daniel Mbankollo, 56-year-old entrepreneur, his wife, Christine and her sister called Marcelline.

Firefighters were reportedly called around 4 am after a neighbour saw smoke coming from the house.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but reports suggest it was an electrical fault that sparked the fire which is believed to have begun from the living room TV.

The fire spread throughout the house destroying furniture and other belongings including a car parked in the house.

One person was able to escape through the window of his room which was outside the main building.

The eldest son of the deceased said at the time of the fire, he and his two younger sisters were in Yaounde for the University Games.
