My political career hasn’t ended, Asapngu tells detractors

The National Organising Secretary of the Social Democratic Front, SDF,and former Mayor of Kumba II Council, Ferdinand Asapngu has stated that the numerous political challenges he is facing, will not put an end to his political career.

Asapngu made the declaration in an interview he granted to the Lake Site Radio in Kumba on issues concerning his life and political career before, during and after the September 30, 2013 elections, and the recent rumours of corruption allegations and his alleged impending arrest for embezzlement.

In reaction to one of the questions on the situation of the SDF in Kumba, the former Mayor opted for the pidgin expression; “Sleep no bi die,” to pass on his message. He explained that the general state of things within the party in Kumba does not reflect the sanity they enjoyed in the past.

He said so many things have gone wrong within a short time, particularly in Kumba II Subdivision where he said “blackmail, back-biting and all sorts of gimmicks,” are putting things off balance.

Despite lamenting over the situation, Asapngu assured the public that the current state of affairs will not last forever.

On the recent allegations of him having bribed the National Anti-Corruption Commission, CONAC, to survive embezzlement charges, Asapngu described them as “hard jokes.”

To him, those who are spreading such information do not even know what CONAC is. He said people cannot be talking about bribing CONAC when Ministers are languishing in jail, adding that nobody can bribe CONAC.

He also dismissed rumours that he was recently duped by conmen of millions of FCFA including his Jeep.

The former Chair of the defunct Kumba Urban Council revealed that he was aware of information spread by his detractors, including those who claim that he (Asapngu) now goes about his private business on commercial bikes.

He stated that he has been in Douala on assignment to reconcile the SDF party militants in the Littoral Region.
