UPC Congress On Basis of Organisation

Different party officials have listed what they say are sine qua non conditions for the organization of a convention.

The Union des populations du Cameroon, UPC officials and supporters are almost of the opinion that a lot of preliminary work has to be done before the party's congress takes place.

The Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation, MINATD, Emmanuel Réne Sadi during a meeting with leaders of the different factions of the party in July 2013 instructed a consensus list to enable the UPC participate in the September 30, 2013 twin legislative and municipal election and the organization of the party congress three months after the elections.

As a follow up to the instructions, some officials and supporters of the party programmed a congress in Yaounde on January 25 to 26, 2014 that did not finally take place owing to the fact that the Subdivisional Officer for Yaounde 1, Tsanga Foe Jean-Paul refused to authorize it. Before that, the Conference of elected and senior officials of the UPC met at Boumnyebel on January 18, 2014 and decided on the need to postpone the congress.

The different officials of the UPC speaking to Cameroon Tribune agreed on the need to organize the congress in the coming months but did not agree on the time. Bernard Ouandji said the congress cannot take place before April 2015. Victor Onana proposed March 2014 ending .They explain that it is important to harmonise the different constitutions and by-law and put in place a Steering Committee in order to have unified party accepted by the grassroots.
