Tubah SDF councillors threaten mass resignation

The crisis rocking the SDF party leadership and councillors of Tubah council has taken a twist for the worse with 27 of the party’s 31 councillors threatening to resign.

In a meeting grouping the aggrieved councillors and their supporters on Monday September 8, 2014, they unanimously reaffirmed their total support to their mayor, Tanjong Martin Meshongong, whom the party hierarchy has refused to recognise as the legitimate mayor of the SDF-run Tubah council.

Speaking the meeting which he convened, Mayor Tanjong expressed gratitude to the 27 councillors for defying the SDF investiture committee’s decision to re-elect his predecessor, Stanislaus Sofa and giving him (Tanjong Martin) a whopping votes of 27 as against 4 for his opponent.

He regretted that despite the fact that the SDF’s slogan: “Power to the People” and democracy prevailed during the mayoral elections in Tubah council, hierarchy has continued to turn it back on him.

While the 27 councillors assured Mayor Tanjong of their unalloyed support, they equally threatened that no district reorganization was going to take place in Tubah to replace the mayor who was recently slammed the party’s dreaded Article 8.2.

They lashed out at the North West provincial chairman of the SDF, Hon. Evaristus Njong whom they said, held a meeting in the Tubah council hall without the consent of Mayor Tanjong Martin.

Briefing the press, Mayor Tanjong Martin who said he is mayor of every body of Tubah irrespective of their political leanings, indicted Hon. Njong Evaristus for sowing a seed of discord in the Tubah constituency.

He noted that Hon. Njong did not in the first place, win the last legislative elections in his Njinikom fief until votes came in from Bum and Fundong to enable him go to parliament. “And this is the same Hon. Njong Evaristus whose 8 SDF councillors disgraced SDF in the senatorial elections by voting rather for the CPDM senatorial list”. He said it was rather his Tubah councillors who swell the SDF senatorial list with 100% votes.

He later took on John Fru Ndi, who he said was humiliated in his own bedroom in Santa where the CPDM won the municipal elections of 2013.

In what has been seen as a determined move to disrupt the Tubah SDF district reorganization Mayor Tanjong Martin has issued a radio communique ; warning that no SDF meeting will hold in the council hall in the name of reorganizing the Tubah SDF electoral district.

It should be noted that the case of Mayor Tanjong is history repeating itself. In the last municipal elections, the SDF slammed Article 8.2 on Mayor Mangoh Jones Tanko of Nkambe, the late Mayor Karngong Nfor of Ndu, Mayor Chiatoh of Njinikom and Mayor Tikanjo Stephen of Babessi including the mayor of Bafoussam I after councillors stubbornly disrespected the investiture committee and voted them into office.

Another mayor who is currently at war with the SDF hierarchy for disrespecting the directives of the investiture committee is that of Kumba II. He too has been expelled from the SDF.
