Too many people are talking in the SDF - Fru Ndi

On Monday, April 20, 2015, the Messenger announced that an African-American organization has awarded John Fru Ndi for his contribution towards peace in the country. On his way to Los Angeles in the United States to receive his award, the chairman of the Social Democratic Front made a stopover in Douala Wednesday, April 22, 2015, at the home of Honorable Osih Joshua.

He received a warm welcome by the mayors, some dignitaries of the SDF and other party activists, although the absence of Elimbi Lobè was noted.

Three randomly selected media were able to get few words from the leader of the 25 Mai 1988 party.

You are en route to the United States with a strong delegation to receive an award. Tell us more about this distinction?

I was invited by the organization, African Focus for Awards. The organization awarded me for helping to maintain peace in Cameroon over the years. You know that the next month, the SDF will be 25 years. I am delighted, and if I have this award, thanks to Cameroonians. Thanks to the Cameroonians in the Diaspora and especially the United States who have mainly played a role for this award.

What is the position of President of the SDF about the award exchanges between counselor Elimbi Lobè and the Honourable Jean Michel Nintcheu concerning elections for mayor of Douala V?

I think anyone who breaks the law must be prepared to suffer the consequences. When someone is elected mayor or senator, one must assume. As chairman of the SDF, I can appoint mayors. There is a procedure to be followed and it is the highest authority of the party that chooses who may be a candidate for election. Whoever remains in his corner and says Fru Ndi has chosen an unelected person will face the consequences.

I found that there are too many people who talk in the SDF and rowing against the rule of law. I try to explain things to people, but some still do not understand. The party's laws will just be applied against them. What kills us in Cameroon is indiscipline.

Concerning the election of the mayor in Douala V, did the party nominate him for the election?

We all voted and endorsed the results. I must tell you something. In SDF, when we want to make a choice of a candidate, we look at the geographical criterion, the issue of gender equality and the criterion of youth. All of these are taken into consideration before the candidate that is presented to party activists. Without it, someone who is not popular can use money to buy votes.

If we let people choose the above criteria will be biased although there are people who despite living in Douala for years cannot win elections. Many people mistakenly think that a politician cannot win an election in a place where the population is not consistent. There are many factors to consider in a candidate. The SDF is there to protect minorities, young people, in short, anyone who can stand for election.

It's been two years since the mandate of the regional president of the SDF in the Littoral was foreclosed. What prevents new elections?

There were some problems. We even had consultations with the National Secretary of the organization. These problems have to do with the president of the parliamentary group of the SDF in the Senate, the Honourable Jean Tsomelou.

He works in the Littoral currently organizing the home and preparing for elections. He does not get up one morning and organize the elections.
