CPDM bids farewell to laissez-faire and expels 8 militants

The ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM party has finally bid farewell to its traditional laissez-faire system that seemed to have gripped the party since its creation on March 24, 1985 in Bamenda.

In all, severe sanctions were meted out on some 165 recalcitrant militants following their non-compliance to rules set by the party’s hierarchy. They are blamed to have placed their interests above those of the party.

From warnings through suspensions to dismissal, these acts are interpreted by keen political observers as a call on militants to sit up and respect the party’s texts.

According to a decision signed by the CPDM party National President, Paul Biya last September 11, some 8 militants all from Moungo constituency have been expelled from the party after being found guilty of indiscipline likely to tarnish the smooth functioning of the party.

For instance, the Lady Mayor of Nkongsamba II, Mboula Elise Henriette epse Essame, whom after the party had put aside as the candidate for the municipal elections, is said to have ignored the decision taken and went forward to propose her candidature and had herself re-elected against the party’s wish. Despite her being called up by the disciplinary council, she overlooked the imminent dangers and went forth with her cause.

According to the Peter Mafany Musonge led Disciplinary Commission created on the 5th of December 2013, Mr Djouokou Jean Blaise, Mr Ewang Martin, Mrs Kingue Sopi Helene, Mr Kono Antoine Depadou, Mrs Kounou Nkolo, Mrs Mboula Elise Essame, Mrs Ngah Nsong Henriette, and Mr Singtat Andre Salmon are blamed for serious misconducts in the pre-selection and selection of candidates who vied for the September 30, 2013 municipal and legislative elections in Cameroon.

The sanctions range from blaming, warning by calling to order to total exclusion from the party. Some other judgements were meted down as follows; 12 militants have been placed under strict observation, 38 received warnings, 35 blamed, one suspended for six months, one suspended for 12 months, 42 suspended for 18 months, 8 acquitted, and 19 found innocent. Worthy to note is a letter of encouragement issued to Mr Amougou Manga Justin of the Mefou and Afamba South constituency.

Unlike others who are reported to have tarnished the image of their party, a militant, Justin Amougou Manga of the Mefou and Afamba section in the Centre region whose case was brought before the Disciplinary Commission was rather served a letter of congratulation and encouragement.
