CPDM: Jean Nkuete halts opportunistic resignations

Sources close to the general secretariat of the Central Committee of the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) have disclosed that the Secretary General, Jean Nkuete, is not contented with some members of various regional, divisional and local supervisory commissions who are resigning to vie for elected executive posts in grassroots organs. The exercise was launched during an information meeting on October 2, 2015 in Yaounde.

In effect, a communiqué published on October 12, 2015 by the National Secretary in charge of Communication in the Central Committee, Prof. Jacques Fame Ndongo, made clear the Scribe’s warning that any resignation from any commission should first be submitted for his approval after endorsement from the President of the concerned commission. The release noted that the resignations were causing “the disorganisation of commissions and grave perturbations in the conduct of operations”.

At the party’s headquarters yesterday, October 14, 2015, our source from the general secretariat said Jean Nkuete took the decision to stop “opportunistic, calculated and fancy resignations” by some commission members who had been warned during the Yaounde meeting on October 2, 2015 that they could only resign to become candidates before the first meetings of their respective commissions.

“Thus, the decision does not concern commission members who resigned between October 2’s meeting and their first commission meetings but those who are resigning now, especially after the October 12 communiqué,” our source explained. The source further affirmed that the resignations recorded now could only be borne from calculations by some party members strategising to be elected into grassroots executives.

Amongst the difficulties posed by such resignations is the replacement of those resigning. “It is not a problem of party members but that of getting those available to fill the vacant posts for this operation which ends on December 10, 2015,” he further explained.

To him, this move by the Secretary General who is the President of the Central Supervisory Commission shows that the operation on the field is closely monitored. “The Secretary General does not want any impediment to the smooth running of the renewal process,” he stated.
