IHF course spread coaching knowledge in Cameroon

Since 1970 the Cameroon Handball Federation has been a full member of the IHF, and for years teams from this country have constantly participated in African Championships in all categories. In order to raise the level of handball in Cameroon, an IHF coaches’ course, as part of the Olympic Solidarity Course, took place in Yaounde from 3 to 12 April 2014. 20 registered handball coaches and ten unregistered auditors took part in this nine-day level 1 course, headed by IHF Lecturer Yvon Laurans. The public interest in this course was huge, the opening and closing ceremonies were even attended by local media and TV.

Assisted by André Betome, Technical Director of the Cameroon Handball Federation, Yvon Laurans taught the participants, in 32 hours of theory and 18 hours of practice, the basic skills of handball in a first step, followed by higher levels of technical, tactical, physical and psychological aspects of handball, different training types for the different positions, attack, defence and goalkeeper’s training and various playing systems.

At the end of the course the following 16 handball coaches successfully passed their theoretical and practical exams: Freddy Fondjo, Marc Alex Essam, Philippe Biyena, Appolinaire Songfack Sabze, Stino Mbenthon Mansard, Anthony Kwain, Blaise Kamgang, Julienne Ngo Kaldjop, Oumarou Mouhamed, Anna Mbufung, Mapota Ngoue, Marie Josiane Missinga Ava, Michèle Lienze, Zachée Baleba, Augustine Mundjongue, Philippe Esseba Esseba.
