Egypt’s handball team maintained its place at the summit of Group A at the African Men’s Handball Championship after an easy win over Cameroon 30-20 Saturday.

From the start, the Egyptian team showed their full dominance ending the first half 17-10. At one point at the second half, the Egyptian team led 22-10.

Saturday’s win is Egypt’s third in a row after defeating title-holder Algeria 22-18 at the tournament opener and 34-20 over Nigeria on Friday.

The cup acts as the African qualifying tournament for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in August. The top three teams will qualify for the World Cup in France Jan 11-29, 2017.

Twelve national teams, in two groups, participate in the tournament.
Egypt, Morocco, Algeria, Gabon, Nigeria, and Cameroon’s national teams are in group A while Tunisia, Libya, Congo, DR Congo, Angola, and Kenya’s national teams are in group B.

Tunisia holds nine titles of the African Handball Cup of Nations. Egypt has held the title five times and Algeria seven times.

This is the first time Egypt is hosting an international tournament since the 2011 uprising that toppled former President Hosni Mubarak.
