This was the objective of a two-week training session that recently held in Yaounde and Douala.
It was satisfied and fulfilled Salia Sanou who left Cameroon last Monday April 14 at the Douala International Airport. The contemporary dancer and choreographer from Burkina Faso had just ended a well spent two weeks working visit in Yaounde and Douala, respectively.
Invited by the French Institute in Cameroon, his presence in the political capital from March 31 to April 5 was marked by a one-week with training session with locally-based artistes on choreographic projects and creation. Out of 13 proposed works, six were retained for eventual development.
Amidst the active presence and participation, the learners presented setbacks such as elaborating choreographic writings, harmonizing texts with movements, amongst other elements that were addressed during the teaching-learning process.
The economic capital took its turn from Monday April 7 to Saturday 12, with about 15 participants drawn from dance clubs and association based in Douala.
This time around, emphasis was laid on developing and harnessing the trainees’ creativity, given that their already had the basic knowledge required. During a restitution session on Saturday April 12 afternoon, they revealed their determination to transcend their limit during a thrilling practical performance of lessons learnt.
Before saying quits, the artistic director of “Mouvements Perpetuels” based between his native Burkina Faso and France (Montpellier) expressed the desire to make the educative encounter a yearly event. This way, he explained, the exchange of know-how and experience between countries will go a long way to pave a brighter future for contemporary dance in Africa, based on the continent rich cultural and artistic diversity.
