Cameroonian immigrants in Lebanon: Parents demand their repatriation

Immigrants Immigrants

Two 20-year-old Cameroonian immigrants who have been in Lebanon for almost a year may be repatriated soon.

This is what their parents achieved after lodging a complaint to Douala police to intervene against an employment agency to get them back. "My daughter is not doing well. She can only call once a month and we cannot contact her to even comfort her. She complains of not being able to eat anything but bread and she is sick. Her work is comparable to slavery because she is busy from 6am to 1am the next day..." laments one parent.

The immigrant youth (university graduates) signed contracts to work as domestic servants in Lebanon. But the conditions of life and work are such that neither they nor their families can cope.

The only catch is that the plaintiffs are asking the recruiter to pay fees of FCFA 400,000 for an airline ticket for repatriation but he refused.
