Woman dumps baby in public toilet

A young lady, Fadimatou, 25, a fish vendor at the central market of Bertoua near Nyanganza, threw her 3 months old baby in the toilet.

The baby was rescued by firefighters. She was arrested and taken into police custody to answer for her atrocious act.

The act was disclosed by the neighbors who made the discovery in the early hours of June 24. Reports reaching us states that a young girl was astounded by the scene of a baby in the depths of the common toilet. She alerted neighbors who came around to save the baby.

Firefighters came to the rescue but had to call in reinforcements to help take the body out of the toilet. "We were forced to enlarge the toilet, to recover the body of the baby. It was not easy. The baby was already dead. a very unfortunate situation indeed!" says a member of the firefighters who participated in the operation.

According to witnesses, the child was killed before thrown into the pit. The baby's body is said to be put under forensic pathologist to ascertain the real cause of death.

The police investigation led to the arrest of Fadimatou, born in 1989 in Maroua. She also gave a full confession.

In her first statement, she maintains that she did so because she seemed to be overtaken by life events and that the baby's daddy was missing.

She admits not having sufficient resources to take care of the baby. She also admits having had difficult time during her pregnancy.
