Suspected foreign poachers arrested with 3000 green parrots and 38 ivory spikes

This is an important operation for the conservation of Lobéké National Park at Mambele in the borough of Mouloundou.

According to the Repères newspaper which in its August 12, 2015 edition, the operation goes back two weeks and was conducted "on the basis of information received from one of the workers at the Park."

According to one of the sources of the newspaper, the operation almost failed. "On the day the activity was conducted by the poachers, Achille Mengamenya, the curator of the park placed eco-guards along the route supposed to be used by poachers. Unfortunately, they delayed and the guards almost missed them," said the source.

The determination of the team was finally rewarded. "A chase was done from Bomba, the department that houses the Pnl, and ended at a crossroads called KWELE about twenty kilometers from Batouri at the Batouri-Ndélélé axis in Kadey" recounts another source to the newspaper.

The poachers were eventually arrested. "The hunt enabled the discovery of 3. 000 green parrots and 19 pairs of tusks in their possession," reports the newspaper.

The booty seized was taken to Mouloundou for further investigations. "In May, a similar operation recovered several tusks and 1,000 AK47 ammunition," says the newspaper.
