Six kidnappers arrested in Yaoundé

Six kidnappers are in police grips for allegedly kidnapping a trader named Koun Arroun Tem in Yaoundé when a deal worth 1 million Francs proposed by the kidnappers turned out false.

Romuald Tankou Cédric Désiré Djounang, Louis Bertrand Mvegui, Ericsson Zimi, Jean Owona and the Cedric Tesso the gang leader of the alleged kidnappers whose age varied between 25 and 32, were arrested by a group of the policemen last Wednesday.

The incident occurred in a furnished apartment near the City Stadium after the victim received a phone call from Tesso to offer a commodity worth one million Francs.

According to a source, the thugs had offered Koun Arroun a domestic wood network to enable him earn more money. After, there were numerous phone calls by Koun Arroun to get in contact with the gang for three days but it proved futile. Arroum thus sought the company of his friend, Otch with whom he went to confront the kidnappers.

They were welcomed by Tesso and Owona who led them into an apartment to discuss the issue but were greeted by four other accomplices.

Arroun was then tied by his captors who asked him for a ransom of 28 million F. Meanwhile, his friend Otch was held in check in an adjoining room.

On realizing time was far spent, they suggested to the victim to call a family member who could be of help. The family member contacted sent a complaint to the police where he reported the kidnapping case. A mechanism was set up by the brigade commander of the police, Tsinga who succeeded in capturing all six suspects.

During interrogation, they confessed that the victim was a stranger who wanted to make a living out of millions. They photographed Arroun while he was in bondage and bound and stated that they will show the photos to the police.

The suspects are still in police custody waiting to face trial in the court.
