Seven suspects arrested in the Lagdo kidnapping case

Seven people suspected in the kidnap of 16 persons including the Mayor of Lagdo have been arrested by the police in Garoua, North of Cameroon.

A source taking part in the investigation disclosed that the chief suspect, Mohamadou Laminou was the former president of YCPDM section of Benue- South (20012-2007) and resides in Lagdo.

Another suspect and native of the town Zoua Benjamin stopped Lara who plays an active role at Dougoudjé de Ouro secondary school, in the Lagdo district at at Mayo-Kani district; Far North region.

He is suspected of informing his landlord, a Djarlawona about what was going on a few days before the kidnapping. The unfortunate man did not listen and proceeded with his trip. He is among the hostages.Zoua is believed to have maintained relationships with road bandits according to investigators.

Judicial Police

The third suspect is called Dougoudoum. Originally from Pette in Diamaré department, Far North Region, he was arrested in late April 2015 along with four suspected members of Boko Haram that he haosted in his home in the Lagdo locality.

All suspects are held in the premises of the judicial police in Garoua.

According to indiscretions, Mohamadou Laminou, considered by investigators as one of the masterminds of the operation of the kidnapping of the hostages, was behind the letters addressed to senior officials of Cameroon, in which he indicated to be the leader of Boko Haram in the Lagdo locality.

Also according to sources close to the investigation, the detained suspects, were the cause of the release request of the President of the Mouvement patriotique du Salut camerounais (Mpsc), Aboubakar Sidiki, and the payment of a ransom 5 billion CFA francs in exchange for the release of 15 hostages held in CAR.

The victims who were kidnapped on the night of March 19, 2015 at the Boulaï Garoua - Meiganga intersection have still not been found and investigations by the Cameroonian security forces are still in progress.
