Kickboxing: Cameroon wins 2 professional titles

The titles were won by Henri Mpondo Moussongo and Ndassi Fotso Blaise in the -65 and +91kg categories respectively.

The Wako Pro African championship of kickboxing took place recently at the military gymnasium of the Pyrénées in Libreville-Gabon with Cameroon winning two of the eleven titles up for grab despite participating with only five athletes.

The titles were won for Cameroon by Henri Mpondo Moussongo in the -65kg event while Ndassi Fotso Blaise also won the professional title in the super heavyweight category that is the +91kg.

It is worthy to note that Mpondo Moussongo was already African champion in the amateur category in 2014 and has just move one step forward by winning the title in the professional category.

Ndassi Fotso Blaise has been African champion since 2009. The host country, Gabon won most of the titles; eight all together while the Democratic Republic of Congo won one title. The other participants like Equatorial Guinea, Mauritius Island, Morocco and Congo Republic won nothing.

The other Cameroonians who failed to win medals were far from ridiculous as Elie Modjo was eliminated at the 7th round in the finals of the -60kg category while Donald Ossele and Bagio Kengne were eliminated in the fourth round by the referee's decision.

Meanwhile the executive bureau of the African confederation of kickboxing met on the sidelines of the competition in Gabon and decided to re-shape the map of kickboxing in Africa, partitioning the zones according to the African Union's appellations.

Henceforth reference will be made to north, central or West Africa and not CEMAC or UMOA zones. They also attributed the organization of the 2017 edition of the competition in Cameroon while Equatorial Guinea will host the regional competition for central Africa.
