On Friday, June 26, at a press conference in the Palais des Sports, United States Ambassador Hoza expressed strong U.S. support for sports diplomacy in Cameroon alongside NBA Cameroonian player, Luc Mbah a Moute, an American coach from Fresno, California, Patrick William Riddlesprigger, Cameroon Basketball Federation (FECABASKET) President and the Luc Mbah a Moute Basketball Camp Director, Gilles Kouamo.

In response to a question from a sports blogger "Why is the U.S. supporting this basketball clinic?" Ambassador Hoza responded "Basketball and sports promote hard work, dedication, and perseverance, and these traits are necessary to successfully attain an education.

While only the best of the best may make it to the NBA or professional sports, all youth must work hard to attain an education and meet their professional goals to contribute towards Cameroon’s development in all sectors. One of the U.S. Embassy’s main priorities is to promote the peace and prosperity of Americans.

This can only be attained if Cameroonians also attain peace and prosperity. We all depend on each other to prosper. That is why we promote basketball diplomacy and are honored to do so right here with Luc Mbah a Moute, who demonstrates what is possible through an education and perseverance.

Sports bring people from all ages, cultures and backgrounds together - who may not speak the same language. For example, this American coach doesn't need to speak French- he speaks basketball. We congratulate Luc for his initiative to use basketball as a means to teach young people about hard work, teamwork and discipline to achieve their dreams.”
