Sixers confirm Embiid will play in Summer League

A few weeks ago, Sixers head coach Brett Brown said he expected Joel Embiid to play in Summer League, but that no decision was made to that point. Joel Embiid has been recovering from a broken navicular bone in his right foot all season and will be making his rookie debut next season. Sixers CEO Scott O’Neil decided to announce the decision about Embiid on Breakfast on Broad (via Derek Bodner):

Sixers CEO Scott O’Neil was on Breakfast on Broad yesterday morning and said, with no qualifications or uncertainty, that Embiid would play in the summer league.

“He will. Yes he will,” O’Neil said when asked whether Embiid would play in summer league.

“Honestly, I’m like a little kid thinking about it,” O’Neil continued.

The Sixers will play in the Las Vegas Summer League and Summer League happening in Utah this summer. Hopefully, Embiid is able to participate in both leagues.

Though, it’s unlikely that Nerlens Noel is playing next to him. The Sixers could benefit from Noel and Embiid playing next to each other in the summer, but there will also be a lot of practice time for that to happen.

Regardless, the important information is that Joel Embiid is playing this summer.
