Idrissa, Atangana on Track Tomorrow

Though athletics has fetched two gold medals at the Olympics for Cameroon in the past through Françoise Mbango in Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 triple jump events, it is very unlikely athletics will give any medal to Cameroon this time around.

Adam Idrissa is the lone Cameroonian athlete who got his qualification for the London Olympics from the track, having attained the minimum record even before the African athletics championship in Porto Novo-Benin. He will be in his first participation at the Olympic Games when he goes down the Athletics Olympic stadium in London to defend the national colours in the 100m men's race. However, his chances of winning a medal are slim as he will be competing with the likes of Usain Bolt.

Delphine Atangana on the contrary was called up at the last minute after she failed to obtain the minimum at the African athletics championship in Benin, coming 6th. Her best performance time is 11.24 seconds, achieved in October 2003 in Abuja. However, her performance has been dropping of recent but she is going to benefit from her experience gained during the Olympic Games in Athens. Hoping for a medal will be a tall dream or come as a pleasant surprise.
