The duo was responsible for the damage done to Porto in Tuesday’s Champions League victory at the Kingpower Stadium and could prove a handful to the Indomitable Lions
Leicester City’s Algerian star Riyad Mahrez heaped praise on compatriot Islam Slimani for scoring the winner against Porto in the Champions League on Tuesday.
The duo combined to score the lone goal for the Foxes who won their consecutive game in the glamorous competition in their debut season.
Mahrez laid the through pass for Slimani to punish the visitors, a team that he has now scored seven times against from his spell at Sporting Lisbon.
“Islam is always ready in the box. I just put the ball in and he was there,” Mahrez said.
The deadly duo will be a handful for defenders this season as they continue to forge a relationship on and off the field.
Both will be in action for Algeria when they play against Cameroon in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers next month.
Mahrez is the reigning Algerian footballer of the year and his growing partnership with Slimani will create anxiety in the camps of the Indomitable Lions as well as Zambia and Nigeria, the group’s other teams.
Leicester City will face Southampton on Sunday before the duo take off to join the Fennecs ahead of their face off with Cameroon.
