Lyon president admits wanting Clinton N'Jie back

It looks very likely that Cameroonian attacker Clinton N’Jie will be heading to Marseille this summer after just one season at Tottenham Hotspur.

His deal is currently being held up as he waits for a renewal to his French working visa but he has already completed a medical with the French club – from whom Tottenham are signing Georges-Kevin N’Koudou.

However, his former club’s president has admitted also being keen.

Jean-Michel Aulas, the president of Olympique Lyonnais, told Foot Mercato this week:

"We were interested in Njie.

"I think my friend (Daniel) Levy, the president of Tottenham, had more desire to loan him to Marseille, but I think that Njie would rather come back to Lyon because he knows what maybe awaits him in Marseille.

"We saw last season that he's a sensitive guy -- it's difficult to arrive at a club that you don't know."

It would certainly seem that Levy has opted to send N’Jie on loan to Marseille – as he sweetens the deal to bring N’Koudou to the capital this summer.

The Cameroonian came through the youth ranks at Lyon, spending five years with the club before joining Tottenham last summer.

Unfortunately, he struggled for form and fitness last season – playing just 14 times for Spurs and only eight times in the Premier League.

He will be hoping that he can have a positive season in France and return to Spurs firmly in the plans of Mauricio Pochettino. Lyon on the other hand will need to pursue other avenues.
