Chedjou’s Galatasaray are Turkish champs

Cameroon’s Galatasaray big central defender Aurélien Chedjou and his teammates have been crowned Spor Toto Super League champions for the 20th time on Monday with one match to play.

The Turkish giants were crowned champions after arch rivals Fenerbahçe could only draw 2-2 at Ba?ak?ehir, earning its fourth star over its logo.

Hamza Hamzao?lu’s side had put its hands on the league trophy after beating Be?ikta? 2-0 in a derby on Sunday night and waited for Fenerbahçe to drop points against Ba?ak?ehir.

Although the Indomitable Lions man was not in action as he’s currently nursing an injury, the league victory will remain a major achievement for the 29-year-old.

Galatasaray now has 76 points and Fenerbahçe has 71 points. Galatasaray has an unassailable five-point lead over Fenerbahce with one game to play, a result which meant they were crowned the new champions one week ahead the end of the season.

Both giants, Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe, have 19 titles prior to this current campaign and a 20th would allow the successful team to add a fourth star to their team shirts with one star allocated for every five championships.

The win makes Hamzao?lu’s charges the first team to get the fourth star on their jersey and according to Turkish media, in the match that paved the way for Galatasaray’s championship, Fenerbahçe had four players sent off.

Among their suspended players is the Cameroonian striker Pierre Webo who was ordered off after a shocking incident in which he kicked an opponent in the head.

Ba?ak?ehir's Alexandu Epureanu challenged to head the ball, however, the Indomitable Lions forward lunged at him with his leg raised and caught him in the side of the head with his studs.

Despite all the chaos, Diego and Webo scored in the last 10 minutes for Fenerbahçe as they came back from 2-0 behind while Ba?ak?ehir's Mehmet Batdal, who had scored twice early in the second half, missed a last-minute penalty.

In their 34th round of league fixtures, the champions will play Caykur Rizespor whilst Fenerbahce are set to meet Kasimpasa.
